NorthSearch is a search engine built exclusively for Canada. Every result comes from a Canadian government, education, or business website, with no international noise and no unrelated results from other countries.
Google and Bing already exist, and billions of people use them every day. By most measures, they do their job well. So why build a search engine that's scoped to a single country?
Because "it works" and "it was built for this" are two different things. On a general-purpose search engine, a Canadian government service, a local business, or a university page is competing for space against results from the entire world: international retailers, foreign news, unrelated content that happens to rank well somewhere else. Canadian content doesn't disappear from those results, but it gets buried, and there's no guarantee the page you actually wanted is even a Canadian one.
NorthSearch starts from a different premise: every result is already known to be Canadian before the search even happens. No filtering, no second-guessing whether a listing is actually a Canadian business or just a page that mentions Canada. If it's indexed here, it's Canadian by design, not by luck.
It's a smaller, more focused idea than trying to compete with the giants at their own scale, and it doesn't need to be bigger than that. It just needs to be useful for people specifically looking for something Canadian.
This also makes NorthSearch useful beyond Canada's borders: people researching immigration requirements, visa applications, or Canadian government services from anywhere in the world can search here and know every result is a legitimate Canadian source, not an unrelated site that happens to mention Canada.
